That was some year, no? I can never think of '89 without thinking of Appan Menon.
Since you brought up 'way too old', here's something that might not cheer you up: the first item in Beloit College Mindset List (for the Class of 2011).
SB: I know. It was also the last year of my life when I was absolutely certain what I wanted to be when I grew up - a foreign correspondent.
Btw, wasn't there also a woman called Meenakshi Ahmed or something like that?
Abi: Okay, now I am depressed.
Only consolation being the two people who commented on this post - your first international memories is probably Moscow Olympics or something as ancient :)
"your first international memories is probably Moscow Olympics or something as ancient :)"
Ekaterina Szabo : Now there's a pleasant memory!
Cat: Must say I was mightily impressed that you have pleasant memories of gymnasts from when were you were like 3 but then I realised you got your years mixed up. Or your cities. You surely mean LA and not Moscow? :)
Also, I'd have expected you say Navratilova for '84; not some gymnast.
ok, if we're talking internation sport memories, borg-mcenroe. tv had not long been in india then, and we had kind neighbours.
Sports shmorts. The only thing I remember about 1989 is that it was the year of Tracy Chapman's first album.
Um, yes, Ekaterina Szabo in la-la land. That should be easy enough to remember...
