Plus, the movies are so much better.

"The history of marriage is not about love and living together, it's about ownership," she added."

Now thats liberalism gone berserk.

Falstaff: Haven't seen many Swedish movies(other than the standard Bergman stuff). Who else would you suggest?

Gawker: I guess the history of marriage is abt how you look at it. I am not real convinced abt the concept of marriage myself. From a sociology standpoint, wasn't it supposedly invented to make sure that the children were looked after fine?

Meditative Rose: Swedish TV is much better? No idea!
The boy did an internship in Sweden long ago - will ask him too abt TV.

To be honest, I was thinking mostly of Bergman (whose cinematic output alone is worth more to me than everything that Hollywood has ever done), but I've seen a few interesting things from Jan Troell (before he came to Hollywood. Sigh!) and have heard good things about Widerberg and Hafstrom, though I've never actually got around to watching either.

Also, think scandinavian cinema more generally is fairly interesting. I recently watched a couple of Susanna Bier films and those were really nice; and some of Marleen Gorris' work is interesting as well.
